WordPress is a Free and Open Source Content Management System; its founders, Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little developed the original platform in 2003, famous for being the most popular online publishing platform in the world allowing its users to build blogs or websites without any technological experience.

WordPress is the official successor of b2 that was developed by Michel Valdrighi that,as of May 2003, it was used by approx. 2,000 blogs, however WordPress (developed by Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little) was released on May 23, 2003 changing CMS as we know it.

In March 2011 WordPress surpassed the milestone of powering over 50 million blogs worldwide and as of March 2016, WordPress is used for 59.1% of all the average ranking sites and 26.1% of all websites combined.

With free updates rolling out on daily basis, additional products, services and features (including Anti-Spam software) aimed at enhancing user experience and VIP hosting partnerships, WordPress continues to grow and attract new customers.

Currently (according to their official website) the WordPress.com network welcomes more than 409 million viewers and more than 15.5 billion page impressions per month. According to iBid wordpress.com receives more than 41.7 million new blog posts and 60.5 million new comments each month which accounts for more than 20% of the entire web.
